    What is kidney cyst?

    2019-01-26 13:55| Font Size A A A

Today’s topic is What is kidney cyst?

Firstly, we need to make clear what is Renal Cyst Disease.

Renal cysts are the most common structural abnormalities in the kidneys of adults. They can be unilateral or bilateral, one or more in quantity, and generally about 2cm in diameter, and also there are cysts up to 10cm in diameter, mostly in men. With the increase of age, the incidence is getting higher and higher, and simple renal cysts generally have no symptoms.

Most common clinically renal cysts are simple renal cysts, and the proportion of hereditary renal cystic diseases is relatively lesser. There are almost no simple renal cysts in people younger than 20 years old. If there is a cyst in an individual younger than 20 years old, it is highly suspected that the kidney has congenital development problems or hereditary renal cystic diseases. With the increase of age, the incidence of renal cysts is getting higher and higher. The incidence of simple renal cysts between 30 and 40 years old is about 10%. By the age of 80, the incidence of simple renal cysts is more than 50%. Simple renal cysts occur mostly in men. When cyst compression causes vascular occlusion or urinary tract obstruction, it may appear correspondingly, which may affect renal function and lead to chronic renal insufficiency, and eventually it may develop into end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Simple renal cysts generally have no symptom. Once clinical manifestations are present, they mainly symptoms such as urinary protein, hematuria, and elevated serum creatinine. It has been thought that simple cysts do not affect kidney function. However, image analysis of renal CT examination showed that patients with renal cysts had higher levels of serum creatinine than those without renal cysts after adjusting for age, gender, primary kidney disease, etc., and the greater the number of cysts, serum creatinine The higher the level. This result suggests that simple renal cysts also have an effect on renal function.

Recurrent episodes of gross hematuria, infection, large amounts of urinary protein, high blood pressure, and early renal failure are the main indications for poor prognosis of renal cysts. How is the urine protein, blood in the urine, elevated serum creatinine, etc caused? Because the simple renal cyst is derived from the renal tubule diverticulum and various bad habits, the toxins in the body accumulate in the human body, exceeding the anti-inflammatory ability of the human body. The anti-inflammatory and inflammatory balance of human cells is constantly shifting to inflammation. Epithelial cells in the renal tubules undergo phenotypic transformation and abnormal proliferation, occlusion of renal tubules, and transdifferentiation under repeated stimulation of infection and/or injury. It becomes a cyst-lined cell, and secretes a large amount of cystic fluid, which causes the cyst to become larger and larger, compressing and injuring the kidney's intrinsic cells, red blood cells and plasma proteins leaking into the urine, forming urine blood and urine protein, and edema, hypertension, renal function decline, etc. Clinical manifestations, kidney cysts have occurred.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that renal cyst disease is due to the deficiency of congenital kidney qi, which makes it easy for damp heat evil invading the kidney network and stay there. With time going on, further aggravation produces wet and heat poison that further blocks blood and produces stasis. The combination of damp and heat forms poison, which directly damages the kidney. there are clinical symptoms such as increased foam in the urine, blood in the urine, and elevated blood pressure.
